Rendez-vous - The Festival of New French Cinema 14th edition 2024

Promoted by the French Embassy in Italy and realised by the Institut français, the most prestigious Italian film event dedicated to French cinema returns to Rome in an extraordinary 14th edition.

Conceived to make audiences discover the plurality of voices in transalpine cinematography, Rendez-Vous, as a tradition, is hosted at the Cinema Nuovo Sacher in Rione Trastevere, a few steps from Porta Portese and, after the Rome leg, moves on to Bologna, Florence, Milan, Naples and Turin.

Opening the festival on 3 April is Bonnard, Pierre et Marthe, the eighth film by Martin Provost, presented during the Cannes Première 2023 section, which brings the passionate and artistic relationship between the famous French painter and his female partner to the big screen. Among the previews is L'Étoile Filante, the new comedy by Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon, combining humour and noir atmospheres.

The festival, with guests and special sections, shines the spotlight on French women's cinema and stories, original and non-conformist, with a programme that includes films such as Rien à perdre by Delphine Deloget and Le ravissement by Iris Kaltenbäck, presented at the Semaine de la Critique.

This edition's guest of honour is the iconic actress, Catherine Deneuve, the international film star, who, together with director Léa Domenach, presents the preview of La Tortue, the film in which she plays Bernadette, the première dame of France, wife of Jacques Chirac.

Promoted by the Embassy of France in Italy, realised by the Institut français, co-organised with Unifrance, with the artistic direction of Vanessa Tonnini, Rendez-Vous, the Festival of New French Cinema benefits from the support of BNL BNP Paribas, Borsalino, Château Livran, the Hotel Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese and Fondazione Nuovi Mecenati - the Franco-Italian foundation for contemporary creation.
