First edition of the BaRò festival: baroque music concerts in the parks and palaces of Rome

The first edition of BaRò takes place in Rome: baroque music concerts in the parks and palaces of Rome, a festival divided into four events, with free events open to all: entry to the concerts is in fact free, only in some cases by reservation. Conceived by Francesca Ascioti, an internationally established opera singer and founder and artistic director of EneaBarockOrchestra, the festival aims to bring even a young and non-specialist audience closer to the vast heritage of Baroque music.

The EneaBarockOrchestra, founded in Rome in 2018 and quickly established itself in the panorama of orchestras specialized in performing the music of the 17th and 18th centuries, is the protagonist of all BaRò concerts. Its activity, present in important international concert venues, brings together expert professionals and young talents, placing musicological research on the little-known Baroque repertoire at the centre and its revival within the architectural, civil and religious spaces of Baroque Rome; in this sense, the EneaBarockOrchestra presents itself as an active reality in the Capitoline cultural panorama.

It starts on September 6th at 10pm, in the Satyrus space in Valle Giulia, in front of the National Gallery of Modern Art with Metamorfosi - Vivaldi in Rock!, a rock reinterpretation of Antonio Vivaldi's famous concerts, The Four Seasons, with the violinist Gabriele Pro. Rock and Baroque: ineffable correspondences on the wave of an overwhelming rhythm. Entrance is free.

On 8 September at 6.30 pm, at Forte Antenne (inside Villa Ada), the orchestra performs a program entitled The baroque concert from Rome to Europe, conducted by the orchestra's cellist, Marco Ceccato. The program of this concert intends to offer a significant insight into the Roman instrumental Baroque and its decisive influence on the subsequent developments of European instrumental music. On 13 September at 8pm Händel Gala, an evening entirely dedicated to Georg Friedrich Händel, in the incomparable baroque setting of Palazzo Pamphili in Piazza Navona, home of the Brazilian Embassy in Italy. The concert presents an anthology of arias taken from the works of the great German composer, entrusted to the voices of four young and internationally established protagonists of the baroque opera scenes: Giulia Bolcato, Shakéd Bar, Nicholas Tamagna and Giacomo Nanni. The orchestra is directed by its first violin, the young and brilliant musician from L'Aquila Gabriele Pro. For this date, entry to the concert is exclusively by invitation from the Embassy of Brazil.

On September 14th at 8.00 pm, at the Roman Aquarium, an exceptional virtuoso is the protagonist of the Lucifera recital, with a program of pure virtuosity specially created for Vivica Genaux, a very famous American mezzo-soprano and godmother of the event. The concert includes arias by furious and wicked women from the repertoire of Italian baroque opera. In these portraits of women taken from Roman and Byzantine history and from Renaissance and Baroque literature, some of the most fascinating pieces by composers such as Johann Adolf Hasse, Antonio Maria Bononcini, Carlo Francesco Pollarolo and Pietro Torri come to life. During the events, the Barò 2025 Edition is presented, which sees the performance of Handel's opera Agrippina for the first time in Rome.
