Osvaldo Peruzzi - Splendore geometrico futurista

Exhibition curated by Massimo Duranti and Andrea Baffoni.

On the eve of the twentieth anniversary of his death, the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali and the Gerardo Dottori Archives are celebrating the art of Futurist painter Osvaldo Peruzzi (1907-2004), one of the last Futurists to divulge the revolutionary theses of Marinetti's movement, with a concise but exhaustive exhibition of his expressive parabola, curated by Massimo Duranti and Andrea Baffoni, who have studied for the occasion a special focus on works from the 1930s-1960s from public and private collections, as well as those of his family, his daughters Stella and Cristina, including historical and significant works little known to the general public.

Osvaldo Peruzzi was a not insignificant figure in the developments of Futurism in the 1930s and early 1940s due to his distinct and original personality that matured as early as the end of the 1920s and the beginning of the 1930s, when Marinetti baptised him a Futurist at the Pesaro Gallery in Milan.

Also on display is a work from the collection of the Capitoline Superintendency, Gallery of Modern Art, one of the artist's best-known works. One of the Leghorn artist's most significant early 1930s aeropictures, not by chance exhibited at the Guggenheim in New York in the great Futurism exhibition of 2014. A precise hallmark of Futurism straddling the first 'heroic' season and later developments that lead directly to the phase of cosmic idealism and abstract preludes.

The Municipality of Livorno, the Primo Conti Foundation of Fiesole, which owns the Peruzzi Archive donated directly by the artist, the State Archive of Milan, which conserves his precious documents and interesting drawings from his artistic beginnings, and the Livorno Foundation, which will later host the present exhibition expanded with all the paintings in their collection in its exhibition spaces, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the death of the Livorno Futurist.

In addition to Peruzzi's paintings, a late painting of him portraying his futurist colleague and friend Gerardo Dottori is also on display. Also on show are twelve drawings, including a group of five postcards, preserved at the State Archives in Milan, with drawings dated between 1929 and 1932 sent to his friend Armando Silvestri on the back. Also on display are a series of unpublished documents on loan from the Primo Conti Foundation in Fiesole.
