The MEDFILM Festival is back in Rome starting from November 2023 at the MAXXI Museum - National Museum of the Arts of the 21st Century, at the Savoy Cinema, at the MACRO Museum, at the Palladium Theater and in the Libraries of Rome.

This 29th edition of the festival, the first in Italy dedicated to the cinema of Mediterranean countries, founded and directed by Ginella Vocca, once again presents a very rich and interesting program this year with 60 films, international guests, professional meetings and in-depth analysis on topics contemporaries.

Women are the protagonists of this edition's story, starting from the official poster, created by Gianluca Abbate, which represents a tribute to Maria Callas, on the centenary of her birth; There are also five jurors of the official competition: the producer Carla Altieri, the editor and director Esmeralda Calabria, the journalist Annalisa Camilli, the actress Anna Ferzetti and the writer Ilaria Macchia.

This year's guest country of honor is Spain: in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain and the Instituto Cervantes in Rome, the MedFilm Fest features mainly young Spanish authors who are little known in Italy.

Many guests, including young talents and masters of cinema, such as Faouzi Bensaidi, one of the most important directors in Morocco today, who presents, as an international premiere, the film Jours d'eté, a reinterpretation of The Cherry Orchard by Anton Čechov. Yousry Nasrallah also returns to the MedFilm Festival with the restored version, in Italian premiere, of his masterpiece The Gate of the Sun, a choral film that accompanies the protagonists, over the course of fifty years, from the fields of Galilee to Lebanon.

The event is supported by: European Commission, Ministry of Culture, LAZIO Region, Municipality of Rome. Created in collaboration with: IOM-International Organization of Migration, Embassy of Spain, Instituto Cervantes, Med-Or Fondazione Leonardo, MAXXI - National Museum of 21st Century Arts, MACRO Museum, WWF Italy, CSC National Film Library, Libraries of Rome, Stadion Video.
