
On the occasion of International Women's Day, from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 March the Capitoline Superintendence of Cultural Heritage promotes an extensive calendar of events in the Civic Museums and places of the city. In fact, the calendar includes over 100 events spread throughout the city, the result of a collaboration between the Department of Productive Activities and Equal Opportunities, the Department of Culture, the Department of Social Policies, Municipalities, Libraries of Rome, and the Capitoline Superintendency. The program, which includes visits, itineraries, meetings and screenings, celebrates the female protagonists of history and art, offering a reflection on the roots of stereotypes and gender violence from antiquity to the contemporary debate.
Furthermore, on March 8th, free entry is provided for all women to museums, archaeological parks, monumental complexes, castles, historic villas and gardens and other state places of culture. All activities regarding events and initiatives are also free. The visits and meetings scheduled at Trajan's Markets - Museum of the Imperial Forums, Gallery of Modern Art, Villa of Maxentius, Carlo Bilotti Museum Orangery of Villa Borghese are subject to reservations required on 060608 and include free access to the museum.
Exceptions are the appointments at the Museum of Rome at Palazzo Braschi and at the Capitoline Museums Centrale Montemartini, which are free to enter (no reservation required, subject to availability) always with free access to the museum, and the appointment at the Museum of the Walls, free but with mandatory reservation at the didattica.sovrintendenza@comune.roma.it email.
A meeting dedicated to poetry is scheduled for Friday 6 March at the Museum of the Walls; a visit to the Constantin Brâncuși exhibition. The Origins of Infinity at Trajan's Markets - Museum of the Imperial Forums, focused on the essence of women in the artist's abstract forms; an urban itinerary among the street art works in San Lorenzo to talk about integration and rights. On Saturday 7 March the story continues with the female figures in the collection of the Gallery of Modern Art in via Crispi and with a multidisciplinary debate on the roots of gender stereotypes at the Casal de' Pazzi Museum.
On Sunday 8 March, the Villa of Maxentius hosts an "impossible" interview with the noble Annia Regilla, a young victim of violence, while at the Garibaldi Ossuary Mausoleum the voice of the protagonists of the Roman Risorgimento will be given back. The appointments continue with the female visions of the Magic Lanterns exhibition. Photographs from the Valerio De Paolis collection at the Carlo Bilotti Museum Orangery of Villa Borghese, and at the Capitoline Museums Centrale Montemartini with a touching testimony on Maria Barosso, artist and archaeologist in transforming Rome. Finally, at the Museum of Rome at Palazzo Braschi, the myth of Apollo and Daphne becomes an opportunity for a reflection on the roots of gender violence and its transposition into the artistic and literary imagination.
