The Nutcracker - Milan Ballet

The Olimpico Theater presents one of the masterpieces of classical dance in the splendid reinterpretation created by the Milan Ballet, which intertwines all the beauty of the classical ballet tradition with the timeless elegance of the Art Déco style.

The dazzling costumes, sumptuous sets, and rétro flair transform each scene into a true feast for the eyes and soul; the ballet thus becomes an emotional journey immersed in a dreamlike atmosphere, where the magic of Christmas blends seamlessly with the past of a fascinating era.

The Nutcracker (Ščelkunčik in Russian) is a ballet in a prologue and two acts with music by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (op. 71), following the directions of choreographer Marius Petipa, who then entrusted the choreographic realization to his assistant Lev Ivanov. The story is based on the 1815 story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann (Nussknacker und Mausekönig), as adapted in 1845 by Alexandre Dumas father Story of a Nutcracker (Histoire d’un casse-noisette).

The plot tells the story of Clara, a young girl who receives a Nutcracker as a gift during the Christmas holidays. During the night, the Nutcracker comes to life and leads her into an enchanted world filled with sweets and fantastical characters. The plot is a blend of reality and dream, with the second act set in the Kingdom of Sweets, where Clara and the Nutcracker are welcomed by the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Dance of the Variations.

Much of the beauty of this ballet lies in its complex and captivating choreography, thanks to the Flower, Fruit, and Character Variations dances, which exemplify the harmony between choreography and narrative. The famous Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Russian Dance in particular capture the audience's imagination and enchant them.

The Nutcracker continues to fascinate audiences around the world, becoming  an unmissable tradition during Christmas celebrations.
