The magic of the lotus flower at the Andersen House Museum. A symbol of grace, purity and spiritual rebirth in Eastern tradition, the lotus is the theme of the exhibition curated by Maria Giuseppina Di Monte and Franco Wang and organised in collaboration with the China Eu Art Foundation, featuring over twenty acrylic on canvas works created by Li Xiaozhu in 2024 and exhibited for the first time in Italy.
The compactness and organicity of the project are in line with oriental knowledge that favors seriality and sequence. Li Xiaozhu’s language recovers tradition while innovating it through the most up-to-date formal research and exploring shapes, textures and colors in an original synthesis of abstract experimentation, landscape and the human figure, amalgamated in a surreal and original vision.
The dialogue with the place is structured around the idea of a fantastic, glacial or lush landscape. In “Celestial Music Series”, a sub-series dominated by greenery, the works meet the genius loci of the House Museum. Here the floral presence is as topical and alive in the building, with its Art Nouveau lines and decorations, as it is in the furnishings, with the Chinese ceramics that contribute to giving the flat the cosmopolitan character that the hosts so enjoyed.
