In the magnificent scene of the ancient Baths of Caracalla, the masterpiece in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi returns to the stage in the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma's new production, signed by director and performer Sláva Daubnerová.
One of Verdi's best-loved operas, with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, La traviata is inspired by the play La dame aux Camélias (1852), initially titled Violetta, by Alexandre Dumas' son and was first performed at La Fenice Theatre in Venice on 6 March 1853.
A leading figure in Slovakian experimental theatre, Sláva Daubnerová presents, for the first time in Italy, her free and powerful artistic vision, with which she portrays the tormented love story between Violetta, a Parisian courtesan, and Alfredo, a young bourgeois, amidst social conventions, choices and freedom, up to the moving and tragic epilogue.
On stage, with the costumes by Kateřina Hubená, is a cast of extraordinary artists, including Corinne Winters and Hasmik Torosyan, alternating in the role of Violetta, Piotr Buszewski and Oreste Cosimo as Alfredo, Luca Micheletti and Gustavo Castillo as Germont, accompanied by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Teatro dell'Opera, conducted respectively by Ciro Visco and Francesco Lanzillotta, and the Corps de Ballet directed by Eleonora Abbagnato with choreography by Ermanno Sbezzo.
