Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's compelling musical returns to the stage of the Teatro Sistina in an unmissable celebrative edition in its original language: thirty years since the historical stage version signed by Massimo Romeo Piparo and a half-century since the release of the iconic Rock Opera.

Jesus Christ Superstar debuted in 1971, following the groundbreaking 1970 double album starring Ian Gillan, frontman of Deep Purple, and inspired Norman Jewison's 1973 cult film, which is projected in the theatre two hours before the show in the presence of legendary actor Ted Neeley. 

An extraordinary Judas Iscariot is the main narrator of the sung story. Through a critical and tormented vision, it narrates the last week of the life of the symbolic figure of Jesus-Man, staged by a group of young hippies to the rhythm of unforgettable songs such as Superstar, I Don't Know How to Love Him, Hosanna, Heaven on Their Minds, Everything's Alright. 

On stage, the amazing singer Anggun, in the role of Mary Magdalene, the singer-songwriter Lorenzo Licitra, who picks up the baton from Ted Neeley in the title role, Feisal Bonciani (Judas), the rapper Frankie Hi-Nrg (Herod), presenting the original hip hop version of the King's song, together with an extraordinary cast of artists accompanied by a live orchestra, conducted by Maestro Emanuele Friello.

Jesus Christ Superstar marks the return of a show of overwhelming impact that transformed the history of musical theatre, still able to thrill audiences of all ages with its message of spirituality and courage.
