
The Palazzo dello Sport is hosting one of the most iconic and eagerly-awaited shows in world basketball. As part of its World Tour 2025, the legendary US team the Harlem Globetrotters return to Rome to offer the public an evening of incredible stunts and trick shots, dribbles, spins, spectacular dunks and moments of pure fun, involving fans before, after and during the match against their long-time rivals, the Washington Generals.
Founded in 1926 in Illinois by Abe Saperstein, the Harlem Globetrotters have played more than 26,000 games around the world in their nearly 100-year history. They have been considered “ambassadors of basketball” and “messengers” of peace, hope and inclusion since their first international tour in 1950, which took them to more than 120 countries (including Russia during the Cold War years). Their ranks have included players of the caliber of Nathaniel “Sweetwater” Clifton, the first Black player in the NBA in 1950, Wilt Chamberlain, the highest scorer in an NBA game with 100 points, Reece “Goose” Tatum, Jamario Moon and Olympic gold medalist Lynette Woodard, the first woman to join the team in 1985, opening up the brand to a new audience and a new generation.
Their unique style combining sport and humour has made them one of the most loved and followed teams in the world, winning them millions of fans. Illustrious personalities such as Henry Kissinger, Nelson Mandela, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Pope Francis are honorary members of this famous club.
