On 28 June, Mel Brooks will turn one hundred. To celebrate the birthday of this brilliant director, screenwriter and actor from New York, Casa del Cinema will screen two of his biggest box office hits.
On Saturday 27 June audiences are invited to see Blazing Saddles (Mezzogiorno e mezzo di fuoco): with his irreverent and iconoclastic style, the filmmaker deconstructs from within the myth of the American frontier and demolishes both the classical western and the racial prejudices on which much of Hollywood imagery is based.
On Wednesday 8, the screening will feature Young Frankenstein (Frankenstein Junior), one of the most famous comedies in the history of cinema, an irresistible parody of the classic Universal horror films from the 1930s. Filmed in a sumptuous expressionist black and white, enriched by the retrieval of the original sets from Whale’s Frankenstein, the film bears witness to Mel Brooks’ anarchical brilliance, and the alchemy between Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman and Peter Boyle remains simply unparallelled.
