Cinderella, Snow White, Ariel and Alice in Wonderland in a new and surprising guise, magically merging cultures and styles, East and West, tradition and innovation. The free exhibition hosted by the Korean Cultural Institute brings to Rome the artistic universe and unique style of Wooh Nayoung, a well-known South Korean illustrator and ambassador of the Korea Heritage Service.
The works by Wooh Nayoung presented to the public portray the most famous characters from the fairy tales that populated our childhood, and their Disney reinterpretations, dressed in Hanbok outfits, the elegant traditional Korean dress. The 48 drawings that can be admired along the exhibition route thus give visitors a new perspective on timeless narratives, enriching them with evocative details, the bright colors typical of Korean painting and writing in hangeul, the Korean alphabet.
As a tribute to Rome and Italy, one of the works in the exhibition is inspired by the legend of Romulus and Remus: the two mythical twins linked to the founding of the city are depicted as Italian-Korean children wearing the first birthday Hanbok, representing the union between the two cultures.
