Feste Musicali Jacopee 2024

The Feste Musicali Jacopee 2024, now in its 21st year, is again dedicating three dates of sacred music with the Cappella Musicale di San Giacomo to the Festa di San Giacomo, protector of the pilgrims and apothecaries.

Al cielo, al cielo, fedeli miei divotissimi!!!: in the Labyrinthus on Tuesday, July 23, the solemn meditations of Jesuit Father Paolo Segneri sj, whose fourth 100th anniversary of his birth we are celebrating (Nettuno, 1624 - Rome, 1694) will rise together with the music of the great European Musical composer Giacomo Carissimi (Marino, 1605 - Rome, 1674) whose 350th anniversary of his death we are celebrating.

The solemn First Vespers concerted on the Feast Wednesday, July 23, continue the tradition of Alternatim, in which prayer, ritual and musical concertation enhance the role of the ancient organ and Gregorian Chant, the root and language of Western liturgy and sacred music.

For the solemn and popular St. James' Day celebration on Thursday, July 25, attended as usual by the heartfelt participation of the Jacobean Brotherhood and the many pilgrims departing for the Camino de Santiago, music by Carissimi, Colusso and Ruggero Giovannelli (Velletri, 1560 - Rome, 1625) Maestro di cappella at St. James' and the Julian Chapel in the Vatican after Palestrina is planned.

Ad sepulcrum Beati Jacobi egri veniunt et sanantur recites the Codex Calixtinus, the most famous medieval text of the Jacobean pilgrimage. The history of the Cappella Musicale di San Giacomo and its precious organ is linked to that of the Church and Hospital of the Incurables, founded in 1339 and whose major expansion and renovation was carried out between 1592 and 1600 by Card. Antonio Maria Salviati (1537-1602), who is buried there under the high altar. The hospital and church of St. James in Augusta occupy an important place in human history: here they found confirmation of their vocation and exercised their charism, among others, great saints such as Gaetano Thiene, Filippo Neri, and Camillo de Lellis.
