Equilibrio

 Equilibrio 2023

The Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, Teatro Argentina, and Teatro Palladium will host Equilibrio, the festival tracing the city's relationship with contemporary choreography.

This year, the long-awaited event expands to 3 weeks with 11 great evenings, 15 choreographers and choreographers, 4 Italian premieres, one absolute premiere, two performances for families and a Notte a Teatro for boys and girls, and then again screenings and meetings.

Equilibrio opens with a prestigious set of international names: Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Sasha Waltz, Sharon Eyal, Aszure Barton, Marcos Morau, Hofesh Shechter, and Marco Goecke will stage I sette peccati (Seven Sins). The production brings together seven world-renowned choreographers, each transforming a mortal sin into a dance piece for Gauthier Dance for the first time in Rome. The result is a devilish tableau made up of seven world premieres.

Also coming up is INK by Dimitris Papaioannou, one of the main protagonists of the international scene, thanks to his visionary talent and evocative ability. Ten years after its creation, the French Olivier Dubois presents, for the first time in Rome, the masterpiece that consecrated his career: Tragédie, a choreography on the mobility of unconsciousness and natural instinct.

With Creation 2021, the transalpine dancer and choreographer Angelin Preljocaj testifies once again to his attraction to philosophy and themes such as the transcendence of the body, dancing to the rhythms of Jimi Hendrix and the narrative voice of Gilles Deleuze, professor at the University of Paris VIII: Vincennes in the 80s.

Another cornerstone of contemporary dance is the occasion for an anniversary: with a show by Alessandro Sciarroni, one of the most revolutionary choreographers on the European scene and 2019 Golden Lion in the Dance category, and a documentary by Matteo Maffesanti, Folk-s is celebrated, a ready-made inspired by the Schuhplattler which - ten years after its première - Sciarroni recreated for the Ballet de l'Opéra de Lyon under the title The Collection.

Three other Italian names complete the programme: Ambra Senatore, Michele Di Stefano, and Virgilio Sieni, engaged in a new creation in collaboration with the jazz musician Michele Rabbia, artist in residence of the Fondazione Musica per Roma.
