The Teatro Brancaccio hosts an exciting journey through Berlin in the 1930s with the most famous musicals in the world, presented in a new version directed by Arturo Brachetti, master of transformism, and Luciano Cannito.
Based on the novel by Christopher Isherwood, libretto by Joe Masteroff and lyrics by Fred Ebb, the show tells the story of Sally Bowles, soubrette of the well-known Berlin cabaret Kit Kat Klub, and her feelings for the American writer Cliff Bradshaw, captured by the charm of the music and the lights and shadows of this new 'Babylon'.
On stage, eighteen extraordinary performers, including Diana Del Bufalo (Sally) and Arturo Brachetti (EMCEE - the master of ceremonies), give life to a mix of fantasy, sensuality and entertainment on the notes of iconic songs such as Willkommen and Cabaret, performed live and directed by Giovanni Maria Lori, with the sets by Rinaldo Rinaldi, costumes by Maria Filippi and numerous special effects. Between politics, love and personal freedom, the cabaret is thus a lively preview of the contemporary world, in stark contrast to the dark period of the racial laws and the tragedy of Nazism.
Cabaret is considered a true classic: since its Broadway debut in 1966, the musical has achieved uninterrupted success, fascinating entire generations and inspiring new international productions, as well as Bob Fosse's 1972 masterpiece, starring the splendid Liza Minnelli.
