The Teatro Sistina hosts an evocative journey into the world of dance with the famous musical directed by Massimo Romeo Piparo and accompanied by the splendid music of Elton John.
Based on Stephen Daldry's 2000 film, Billy Elliot tells the passion for dancing of the very young and talented protagonist, who aspires to become a dancer against the background of Margaret Thatcher's England, a 1980s moralistic country, with an austere atmosphere following the closure of the mines and the protests of the workers. His dream, encouraged by his dance teacher, Mrs Wilkinson, is thwarted by his father, Jack, and his brother, who would like him to be a boxer.
The international staging features a cast of 30 extraordinary performers, including the actor Giulio Scarpati, in the role of Billy's father, and the dancer and TV presenter Rossella Brescia, making her debut in the world of musicals as Mrs Wilkinson.
First performed at London's Victoria Theater Palace in 2005, the show has received numerous accolades, including four Laurence Olivier Awards for the London production, Europe's highest prize for Musicals, ten Tony Awards for the Broadway production, and ten Drama Desk Awards.
