Leaving a Mark
In 1893, in Via degli Orfani – just a stone's throw from the Pantheon – Emanuele Fetti started writing, as one might say, the history of this shop, run today by the fifth generation. Fascinated by Waterman’s innovative fountain pens with a retractable nib, invented just a few years earlier, Emanuele became one of the main shopkeepers for writing accessories in the capital.
Continuing his father's passion, Francesco Fetti created the FIPS (Fabbrica Italiana Penne Stilografiche) brand, and his daughter Lucia, in turn, introduced leather stationery, folders, and bags for professionals. Since 1985, Lucia’s son, Marco Carnevali, has been taking care of the shop’s loyal and refined clientele. In addition to offering a selection of the best brands, such as Mont Blanc, Parker, Faber Castell, Caran D’Ache, Visconti, Monte Grappa, Stilo Fetti also offers expert advice, fully understanding the needs of its customers, and always managing to find the right solution, whether it’s technical, or purely about the right design.
Because a pen is a bit like a watch. Not only is it a writing instrument, but also an object to show off, or passionately collect. And it’s perhaps the latter that attracts customers the most: both Italians and foreigners; from professionals to parliamentarians; and naturally tourists intrigued by the historic shop’s window displays.
In 2010, Stilo Fetti started producing its collection of pens “753”, dedicated to Rome and made in only 100 pieces per year, to celebrate the founding of the city. Today Marco’s daughter, Letizia, works alongside him, offering her valuable contribution to the company, opening up to the increasing demand from foreign markets, thanks to e-commerce. And so, they continue to write their fascinating story.
