Like every year, the appointment with Videocittà is renewed, the festival created by Francesco Rutelli, with the creative direction of Francesco Dobrovich, which explores the most innovative codes of audiovisual and digital. During the festival, which takes place as usual in the largest indusxxtrial archeology area in Europe, the Gazometro in Rome, there will be grandiose installations, video art, immersive experiences, live and DJ sets, talks and AV experiences.
Also for the 2024 edition, the promotional tickets and the first issue of season tickets were sold out, almost half of which were sold to a national and international audience. The three days of the event, which has the theme of digital and ecological transition, are dedicated to a reflection on the connection between man and nature and on the dialogue between environmentalist thought and new technologies as the only viable path to build a new world where digital coexists , inclusion and sustainability. The theme of the Galaxy is also central after those of the Moon (2022) and that of the Earth (2023).
As per tradition, Videocittà opens with the site-specific work that covers the metal cylinder of the Gazometro, symbolic monument of the Ostiense district and contemporary Rome. For the year 2024, the installation, entitled Nebula, is signed by Quiet Ensemble - a leading creative studio in the panorama of visual arts and new media in Italy, leader in the creation of immersive digital arts installations - and by Giorgio Moroder, pioneer of the use of the synthesizer, master of soundtracks, Oscar and David di Donatello Lifetime Achievement winner, considered one of the most influential figures in electronics and disco music. Quiet Ensemble, through the use of interactive techniques and attention to the sounds of nature or the movement of insects, creates works that mix art, science and technology such as Nebula: an unexpected, luminous and shining audiovisual experience, in harmony with the music, created specifically for Videocittà by Giorgio Moroder. Thus the metal lattice is transformed into a dense constellation that envelops the public from every direction: a unique and original immersive experience in which you are surrounded by a night illuminated by brilliant stars with sounds coming from distant galaxies. The installation, created by Eni, curated by Videocittà with the scientific support of INAF and the Astronomical Observatory of Rome, and with the executive production of Eventi Italiani, is presented on the first day of the festival with an opening speech with the same Quiet Ensemble and Moroder.
