Theater, live music, gospels, circus and children’s shows are the main ingredients of the colorful festival that from 8 December 2023 until 7 January 2024 will transform the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone into a huge stage to fully experience one of the most anticipated times of the year.
With its evocative and enveloping sounds, the Roma Gospel Festival, one of the most important gospel festivals in Europe, is back again this year. The task of warming up the atmosphere is entrusted to some of the best ensembles from the United States. In addition to the world-famous Harlem Gospel Choir (25 December) and the Florida Inspirational Singers (23 December), there is no shortage of new and exclusive performances, such as the 150-strong choir led by Reverend Eric Waddell (21-22 December) and the groove-soaked ballads of Kaylah Harvey, the new and bursting voice of New York's black community (30-31 December).
The program of pop, jazz and rock concerts features performances by the likes of Enrico Nigiotti (8 December), Nicola Piovani (26-28 December), Mannarino (26-28 December), Max Gazzé (29-30 December) and Tosca (1 January). Among the projects conceived especially for the festivities are the traditional Christmas carols arranged in a swinging key by the Jumpin' Jive Orchestra (29 December), and La Chiarastella (5-6 January), an original project by Ambrogio Sparagna with the Orchestra Popolare Italiana, which, together with the Coro Popolare, this year proposes some songs from the Franciscan tradition linked to the Nativity.
As regards theater, the festival includes in addition to Massimo Venturiello, Domenico Iannacone and Emilio Casalini, Edoardo Leo, with his reading-show “Ti racconto una storia (letture serie e semiserie)” on 31 December. Specifically dedicated to the youngest are the shows realized thanks to the synergy with the Globe Theatre: “Riccardino III”, “Nonna Lia(r) e le sue tre nipoti” and “Prospero e la tempesta di Natale”. On the other hand, the collaboration with SIC - Stabile di Innovazione Circense has led to the contemporary circus event OPS!, which from 2 to 7 January brings to the stage the most innovative companies on the international scene with three marvelous shows suitable for the whole family, including “Luz de Luna”, the new premiere show by Fabiana Ruiz Diaz.
The program is complemented by guided tours in Italian, English, and French on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, a journey through architecture, music, art, and archaeology to discover the features of the Renzo Piano-designed Auditorium; and the exhibitions “Come onde del mare” and “From the Lips to the Moon”.
