The Chinese composer and conductor Tan Dun returns once again at the New Auditorium Parco della Musica to conduct the Orchestra and Choir of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia to present, in the Italian premiere, his latest composition Buddha Passion. The work, which draws inspiration from the composer's careful reading, deep study and translation of some manuscripts from the library of the Mogao Caves of the ancient city of Dunhuang in China, takes up the ancient narratives of the Buddha's teachings.
Tan Dun, former UNESCO ambassador, Grammy Award, Oscar and Golden Lion winner, is famous and known for having been able to harmonize the traditions of eastern and western music in contemporary compositions, as in his latest work. His wide repertoire ranges from classical music to multimedia performances and he has already presented some of his most important compositions at the Academy, including Water percussion concerto (2007), Internet symphony “Eroica” (2010) commissioned by Google and YouTube, and Water Passion after St. Matthew (2011). In Europe he is also best known for composing the soundtracks of the films The Banquet, Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
