From the production of the Gigi Proietti Globe Theatre Silvano Toti, with the artistic direction of Nicola Piovani, one of the most acclaimed comedies of William Shakespeare, comes on the scene of the Teatro Olimpico.
Time is the true protagonist and engine of The Twelfth Night: it is twelve nights, in fact, the interval between Christmas and the Epiphany, the most important festive period in Elizabethan England. The nights have the sweet taste of the holidays, but at the same time, they have the aftertaste of poison and bitterness because that joyful time, like all beautiful things, is destined to end.
The only remedy? To live to the maximum our allotted time to make true those desires that the exceptionality of the party promises to realize.
A structure similar to that of a Renaissance clock marks the passage of time. Olivia, Viola, Duke Orsino, Feste, Malvolio, and Sebastiano, all rush to find a new identity.
But the true leading actor is still time that, playing with the characters' feelings and actions, creates a Wonderland leading us, in a crescendo, from the quiet dawn torn by the storm and shipwreck, meeting hectic midnight and the end of the party. Wishes come true, or so it seems, cards change, and it all starts again.
