The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia Orchestra conducted by Herbert Blomstedt presents Franz Schubert's Symphony No.3 and Anton Bruckner's "Romantische" Symphony No.4 at the Auditorium Parco della Musica.
The Symphony No.3 in four movements, originally intended to be performed by a non-professional orchestra conducted by the violinist Josef Prohaska in which Schubert played the viola, was composed in 1815, a particularly important year from a compositional point of view for the great musician Austrian, who reached full artistic maturity. A significant stage of this maturity is in fact made up of this masterpiece, in which the Mozartian and Beethovenian influences appear to have been overcome by an autonomous and original musical conception.
The Symphony n.4 “Romantische” represents one of Bruckner's most famous works together with Symphonies n.7 and 8. Written in 1874 and revised several times until 1888, it was dedicated to Prince Constantine of Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst. Welcomed from the outset with great success in Vienna in 1881, it was directed by Hans Richter. The name of the Symphony comes from the fact that at that time the Romantic movement was at its peak in the arts.
Blomstedt is one of the world's foremost conductors and is currently Honorary Conductor of the San Francisco Symphony, Bamberger Symphoniker, Danish Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony and Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.
