Leonardo da Vinci International Airport

Inaugurated on 15 January 1961, Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is one of the world's most important airports and the most extended Italian hub for international and intercontinental transportation with its 29 square kilometers.

Located about 30 km from the Capital, in the direction of the sea, every year it welcomes millions of passengers en route to the most diverse destinations, and within it operate about 100 airlines.

Over the years, the original structure of Fiumicino airport has extended several times to cope with the increase in air traffic, which has made it a place in continuous evolution.

Today, the Leonardo da Vinci offers its passengers many top-quality services, including food and shopping areas, spacious waiting rooms, and hotels. Airport Council International, the international association that independently measures the perceived quality in over 300 international airports, awarded it with a new historical record, the first place in the travellers' appreciation. In addition, digitization, security, innovation, and environmental sustainability are the strengths of its strategy.

Fiumicino Airport is also the first airport in Europe to obtain the Level 4+ "Transition" certification, the highest level of the "Airport Carbon Accreditation - ACA" program promoted by ACI Europe, based on the reduction of direct and indirect CO2 emissions at airports.

In 2020, the Roman hub won the Airport Service Quality Award, the prize for airports whose services passengers particularly appreciate. These services include cleanliness of the terminals, clarity of the information to the public, courtesy of the staff, waiting time at the security checks, and available facilities.
