Over 70 powerful images taken by 30 photographers from 10 countries, including the Italian correspondents of major news agencies such as Reuters, AP and AFP 70, report the months of the lockdown in Italy, from the emergency of March to the first signs of a restart: a journey through images that captures not only the dramatic situation in hospitals and red zones, but also the deserted cities, solidarity, life on the balcony and the slow recovery towards what has become the new normal.
The photos, in addition to documenting a page of our history, are also a tribute to the courage and resilience shown by the Italians in the most difficult days of the pandemic, as well as to the professionals in the world of information who went to the forefront to document it.
The feelings of pain and anguish and the difficulties of the first phase emerge in the images of intensive care, lined coffins, suffering faces, empty and silent streets and squares. In the second part of the exhibition itinerary, we return to see the “light” with the images of a population that reacts, initially with the songs from the balconies and terraces or with the reopening of the first shops and then with the gradual return to normality, albeit conditioned by new rules.
The last section focuses on the work of reporters in times of pandemic. A collage of photos that shows how press correspondents have had to adapt to the new working conditions imposed by the lockdown through home live streaming videos, reportage with masks in deserted cities, press conferences and online interviews.
