Totally new and site-specific videos, sculptures and installations: the finalist works of the MAXXI Bvlgari Prize show our present looking to the future and are presented to the public in the exhibition curated by Giulia Ferracci, with an immersive journey that starts from the museum’s lobby and reaches Gallery 5 on the third floor.
Dedicated to Italian creativity, and in particular to the promotion and support of young artists, the award was born in 2000 but since last year has made use of the partnership with the high jewelery maison Bvlgari, an icon of Italian excellence for over 130 years and always attentive to research and experimentation.
The three finalists of the second edition of the Prize were chosen by an international jury, composed of the Artistic Director of MAXXI, the Director of MAXXI Arte), with Manuel Borja-Villel (Director of the Reina Sofa Museum, Madrid), Emma Lavigne (President of the Palais de Tokyo, Paris) and Victoria Noorthoorn (Director of the Museo de Arte Moderno, Buenos Aires).
In dialogue with the architectures designed by Zaha Hadid we find the sculptures suspended in the void and with hybrid forms by Giulia Cenci, the poetic ode to the decay of architecture by Tomaso De Luca and the Roma and Fiumi project by Renato Liotta, twelve films in 16 mm that evoke a walk in the wonders of Rome, with the cats of Largo Torre Argentina inhabiting ancient ruins and marbles. The winning work will become part of the Museum’s Collection but a special award will also be assigned by the public.
