Chiesa di Sant'Antonio dei Portoghesi - Concerto di organo

The church is a religious reference point for the Portuguese community in Rome. It was founded in 1445, at the behest of Cardinal Antonio Martinez de Chaves. It was erected on the site of a preexisting hospice that was founded in 1367, during the pontificate of Urban V, by the noblewoman Guiomar of Lisbon, in order to welcome pilgrims arriving from Portugal.
The church was then placed under the protection of the Portuguese ambassador to the Holy See, who decided to extend the original chapel, entrusting the work to Martino Longhi the Younger in 1638. He was succeeded by Carlo Rainaldi in 1674.
Following the occupation of Rome by Napoleon, both church and hospice were closed and put up for auction in 1799. The property was returned to the Portuguese government in 1814, who reopened the structure in 1842, after significant restoration work.
