On Friday 15 November at 18:30, at the Grand Salon of Villa Medici, French writer Maylis de Kerangal will hold a special reading on the occasion of the publication of her latest novel, Jour de ressac, published by Éditions Verticales. The event is a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the author's narrative universe, with passages that evoke themes of loss, memory and transformation with intensity and depth.
In this work, de Kerangal takes the reader through a journey of reflection and rebirth, painting fascinating and powerful scenarios such as the Gonfreville-l'Orcher refinery, described in the novel as an indecipherable and nebulous place, where the industrial landscape is mixed with human emotions and the stories of the protagonists. Jour de ressac explores complex and universal themes, linked to memory and the relationship with the past, and confirms the narrative mastery that has made the author famous on the international literary scene.
Maylis de Kerangal is one of the most influential voices in contemporary French fiction. The author of some fifteen novels and short stories, her works, published mainly by Éditions Verticales/Gallimard, have been translated into many languages and received major international awards. Her best-known successes include Réparer les vivants (2014), which won numerous awards and was adapted for film and theatre, and Un monde à portée de main (2018), a novel dedicated to the world of painting and creation.
The reading of de Kerangal at Villa Medici follows the international symposium Scrittorə e Sociologə organised by Sapienza University of Rome and hosted at the same venue.
