For those arriving from the North, the best way to reach the capital is via the Milan-Rome A1 motorway. Those coming from the West of the country should instead take the Aurelia State Road and then the Civitavecchia-Rome A12 motorway.

From the Adriatic Coast, the best route is via the Aquila-Rome A24 motorway.

Finally from the South, the Naples-Rome A1 motorway should be taken. Every motorway joins up with the “Grande Raccordo Anulare” (or G.R.A.-Rome  Ring Road) with os exits for the centre and Rome’ssuburbs.

Taxis in Rome

Want to get around Rome by Taxi?

You can contact a Taxi company by dialling the Numero Unico 060609 or submit your request through the Roma Capitale Chiama Taxi Utente App, downloadable from Google Play (Android) or App Store (Ios).

If you call 060609, you will need to clearly pronounce the address and street number from which you wish to be picked up. Through voice recognition (Automatic Speech Recognition), the system will direct your call to the nearest Taxi stand; a Taxi driver will answer your call to confirm their arrival. If no Taxi is available, the call will be routed by the system directly to the nearest vehicle.

The Taxi service vehicles of Roma Capitale are white and have a sign 'TAXI' on the roof. The symbol of the municipality and the licence number are affixed to the front doors, and can also be found inside the car on the left rear door.

We recommend that, whenever possible, you take the Taxi directly from a dedicated Taxi stand or reserve it by telephone.

Main Taxi Stand Points

Largo di Torre Argentina (between Pantheon and Trastevere), Piazza Fiume (Villa Borghese), Piazza Venezia, Piazza Giuseppe Gioacchino Belli (Trastevere), Piazzale Ostiense, Piazza San Silvestro (Trevi Fountain), Piazza dei Cinquecento (Roma Termini Railway Station), Piazzale della Stazione Tiburtina, Metro A Anagnina, Piazzale della Stazione del Lido (Ostia), Piazza Risorgimento (Vatican).

Useful tips

  • Before leaving, check that the taximeter (located above the instrument panel or in the upper part of the front window) is switched on; if it is not, ask the driver to activate it.
  • Always ask for a receipt to be issued, which should show the route, the licence number, the amount paid and the driver's signature.
  • In case of problems/complaints, call the Traffic Police at 0667104282.
  • For enquiries, contact the URP of the Dipartimento Mobilità Sostenibile e Trasporti (Sustainable Mobility and Transport Department) by e-mail at mobilita@comune.roma.it.

Complaints

Any complaints may be addressed to Dipartimento Mobilità e Trasporti, Commissione di Garanzia, Via Capitan Bavastro 94, 00154, Rome.
The complaint form can be found at www.comune.roma.it. You can send it by e-mail to mobilita@comune.roma.it, or by PEC to protocollo.mobilitatrasporti@pec.comune.roma.it.

Lost and found items in a taxi

In case of loss of objects in a taxi, if you are in possession of useful information to identify the vehicle and the taxi driver (e.g. licence number or number plate, or name and surname obtained from a POS payment receipt), you can contact the Public Relations Office of the Dipartimento Mobilità Sostenibile e Trasporti on 06 671070721-722 every day from 9. a.m. to 12. noon and on Tuesdays and Thursdays also from 2. p.m. to 3. 30 p.m.

If, on the other hand, you do not have any identifying information, you can attempt a search by calling all taxi companies at the numbers on www.060608.it/it/trasporti/muoversi-in-citta/in-taxi.
Or by contacting the Lost and Found Office - Circonvallazione Ostiense 191, on 06 67693214-3217. The Office is open to the public from 8.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Thursdays until 5 p.m.
