Visea, story of a fresco

Visea, storia di un affresco-Foto: sito ufficiale dei Musei Capitolini

The Capitoline Museums host the "Visea" project, an innovative multimedia application through which visitors can retrace the whole executive process of the fresco paintings; in this case the work examined is the fresco painted by Tommaso Laureti in the Sala dei Capitani of the Palazzo dei Conservatori of the Capitoline Museums.

Commissioned by the Capitoline Magistracy and created between 1587 and 1594, the wonderful fresco represents some of the most famous episodes in the history of ancient Rome taken from the work of Tito Livio Ab Urbe Condita and intended as an exempla virtutis of the Roman people.

The application thus allows you to navigate within the scenes on the four walls (The Justice of Brutus, Orazio Coclite at the Sublicio bridge, Muzio Scevola in front of Porsenna and the Battle at Lake Regillo) and discover the temporal sequence of execution of the frescoes, retrace the days of work, the pictorial groups made in the various phases, grasp the technical methods used by the artist to move from a drawing on paper to plaster, but also the procedures in painting and rethinking.

Furthermore, by means of an advanced application on the natural user interface, with the multimedia storytelling (images and text) that accompanies the dynamic animation, textual insights are received on the pictorial technique, on the main characters depicted and on how over the centuries. the Room, formerly known as the "Living Room of the Emperors", has been enriched with monuments, statues and inscriptions.

The Visea project is installed on a totem working in touch-less mode, i.e. without contact. It is a software conceived by the authors of the project in agreement with the Management of the Capitoline Museums that allows you to call up information with just the movement of the index finger (Air Push). Unlike touch-screen totems, the Visea project is in fact installed on a totem that works in touch-less mode, i.e. without contact. The new prototype, available to visitors in Italian and English, is a tool allowing users to take advantage of this new cultural offer in complete safety, in compliance with anti Covid 19 regulations.

The project, born as part of the POR / FESR 2014-2020 Lazio Region "Business makes culture" 2019 and promoted by Roma Culture, Capitoline Superintendency for Cultural Heritage, was conceived by the CBC Conservazione Beni Culturali Soc. Coop team. - Nergal Consulting Srl - Xtrust Srl, in collaboration with the Capitoline Museums selected as "Place of Culture”, museum services Zètema Progetto Cultura.
