The Satyrs ballet show by the Virgilio Sieni Company at the Auditorium Parco della Musica is part of a new production and sees the two dancers Jari Boldrini and Maurizio Giunti on stage accompanied by the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, performed live on the cello by Naomi Berrill.
A partly human and partly animal figure of Greco-Roman mythology, personification of fertility and the vital force of nature, connected with the Dionysian cult, the satyr or faun also plays an important role in Nietzsche's aesthetics: in his work Birth of the tragedy in the spirit of music (1872), the satyr represents "the original man", who denounces civilization as an illusion.
In the show, the two dancers are linked by similar, symmetrical gestures that almost seem to mark the space, to give life to forms of understanding and empathy that oscillate between Dionysian and Apollonian, creating a mysterious aura, full of references to the archaic world.
Virgilio Sieni, dancer and choreographer, is active internationally for the leading theatrical and musical institutions, art foundations and museums. In 1992 he created the Virgilio Sieni Company, establishing himself as one of the protagonists of the contemporary scene. He has been awarded the UBU prize three times (2000, 2003, 2011), the Lo Straniero prize in 2011 and in 2013 he was named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et de Lettres by the French Minister of Culture. He bases his artistic language on the concept of transmission and tactility, with an interest in the multisensory dimension of gesture and of the individual.
