The most important Street Skateboarding event for 2021 takes place in Rome: all podium spots will earn direct access to the upcoming Olympic Games, but all the other athletes will get the chance to earn points and climb for the ranking that will select the 40 skaters flying to Tokyo (20 men and 20 women). For the first time in history, in fact, this discipline so loved by young people is included in the Olympic program.
The evocative and monumental complex of the Foro Italico is going to host the over 200 best skaters from around the world – including Asia Lanzi, Massimo Cristofoletti and Kevin Duman, Nyjah Huston, Yuto Horigome, Pamela Rosa and Leticia Bufoni, with their millions of social followers – ready to perform between ollies, flips, grinds and slides. The temporary 1,000 square meter skatepark set up inside the Stadio Pietrangeli is designed by California Skateparks to match the level of the venue and the importance of the event.
The World Championships are however only the tip of the iceberg of a project that envisages Rome as the protagonist of this discipline for the next few years with the Open Street Skateboard, a top-level international contest organized from 2022 to 2025.
