In December, the Municipio Roma II invites girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 14, residents or attending local schools, to enjoy a free and shared experience of knowledge, play and adventure with a scientific theme with a social-educational value.
The numerous initiatives, specifically designed for the young people of the Municipality, will take place at the Civic Museum of Zoology, Technotown-hub della scienza creativa in Villa Torlonia and the Casina di Raffaello in Villa Borghese.
On the programme, group games and challenges, treasure hunts, experiments, creative factories and themed workshops.
The project is promoted by the Municipio Roma II in collaboration with the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali and with the organisation of Zètema Progetto Cultura.
In Italy, the gender gap in STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) results in a clear underrepresentation of women, despite the fact that they represent almost 50% of graduates. More than half of the girls feel held back by stereotypes and risk discrimination at work. This gap has social and economic consequences, limits opportunities for women and hinders innovation.
The Municipality's initiative aims to make people reflect on the issues of the gender gap in STEM disciplines in an attempt to break down social and cultural barriers among the very young, overcoming gender stereotypes to promote equal opportunities; to disseminate a new way of experiencing and using technology in the era of the fourth industrial revolution; and to promote participation and social and cultural interaction among young people.
All educational activities can also be carried out by young people with disabilities who will be supervised by appropriate personnel. Participants with special needs will be allowed to enter with their own personal accompanying person (family member or indicated at the time of booking) to facilitate their participation.
