Bach’s Goldberg Variations, performed live by pianist Andrea Rebaudengo, are the immaterial architecture in which internationally renowned choreographer and dancer Virgilio Sieni moves and converses with. The show, part of the Romaeuropa Festival program and hosted on the stage of the Argentina Theater, represents the manifesto of his choreographic art and is emblematic of his research on the body and dance languages.
Music brings out figurative memories never mentioned directly but evoked in an intimate journey that asks for sharing. Together with Bach’s music, source of inspiration are some of the greatest painters and sculptors of Italian art from the 14th to the 17th centuries, such as Piero della Francesca, Michelangelo and Caravaggio: the body assimilates the images of the past and becomes the threshold through which reflecting on the future, in a deep and exciting journey from one figure to another, between weaknesses, imperfections, juxtapositions and resonances.
