Castel Sant'Angelo and the Passetto di Borgo will be the spectacular backdrop for the Girandola, the traditional fireworks show celebrating the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, Patrons of Rome.
For twenty-two minutes, from the Lungotevere Tor di Nona and from the Vittorio Emanuele II Bridge, Sant'Angelo Bridge, and Umberto I Bridge, you will be able to enjoy an extraordinary and exciting display of fireworks that will illuminate the castle and the river by day, dressing them with light among a thousand suggestive sparkles and reflections.
The Girandola has been held in Castel Sant'Angelo since the 15th century as one of Rome's most noteworthy attractions and has been celebrated in the immortal verses and prose of poets and writers and portrayed by great painters from the Renaissance to the end of the 19th century, especially during the Grand Tour, when young European aristocrats and artists visited the Eternal City.
This year, the event will also kick off the third edition of Sotto l'angelo di Castello: danza, musica, teatro, the summer event organized as part of the activities of the State Museums of Rome.
At 6.30 pm, 7.30 pm, 8.30 pm, you will be able to enjoy three site-specific performances of WE, the Angel, a dance show created especially for Castel Sant'Angelo by Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten, authors of internationally successful dance productions.
The magnificent firework show will begin at the end of the last performance.
The event is conceived and curated by one of the leading experts in this exhibit, Arch. Giuseppe Passeri, and by the IX INVICTA & Co Group.
This edition, the first complete since 2015, is organized by the Directorate of State Museums of the City of Rome and the National Museum of Castel Sant'Angelo, directed by Mariastella Margozzi with the collaboration of Roma Capitale, the Mayor's Gabinetto, the Department of Grandi Eventi, Sport, Turismo e Moda, the Municipal Police, the Civil Protection, which together with the Prefecture, the Police Headquarters of Rome and the Fire Brigade, have given their precious contribution to guarantee the safety of the event and the best visibility for citizens and tourists.
