Inside "the most beautiful relic of ancient Roman" - as the French writer Stendhal defined it - returns the suggestive tradition for the Pentecost, the festivity that celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Virgin and the Apostles in the Christian religion.
Around noon, after the 10.30 Holy Mass, the Fire Brigade will drop thousands of red rose petals from the circular 9 meters diameter opening at the top of the dome of the Pantheon, giving life to an exciting show.
The ritual takes its origins two thousand years ago in Roman Christian tradition when roses represented the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church. They also symbolized the blood shed by Christ for human redemption.
The poetic rain of petals from the Oculus, the "eye of heaven" of the splendid monument, seals one of the most important Catholic anniversaries and since 1995, the year of its restoration, represents an event full of charm and symbolism for everybody.
