The drama staged at the Quirino Theater is taken from the 1949 work of the same name by Arthur Miller and is considered one of the most important of contemporary American theater, as it deals with important issues such as family conflict, criticism of the “American dream” and the moral responsibility of the individual. It can be considered a real modern tragedy starring Willy Loman, a 63-year-old traveling salesman, obsessed with the idea of success and the pursuit of material happiness induced by the American society of the time.
Loman dreams of a future that he is unable to achieve because he lives in a country that apparently offers many opportunities, but fails and cannot forgive himself for it. All his projects slowly fall apart as well as his life and the house he lives in. The resulting sense of shame and inadequacy cause the protagonist to pour all his expectations of success on his eldest son Biff, not realizing that they are too big and unachievable for him.
The show, directed by Leo Muscato, has Michele Placido and Alvia Reale as main interpreters.
