On the occasion of the thirteenth edition of the event Si canta maggio (May is sung), dedicated to the songs of the Italian popular tradition, the musician Ambrogio Sparagna presents a show focused on the materials of Pasolini's collections dedicated to the rich repertoire of working songs.
In fact, in the 1950s Pasolini published some of the most significant examples of Italian popular poetry in the anthological volume Canzoniere italiano (The Italian songbook): a selection of almost 800 texts of dialectal poetry of various kinds and structure, which is about different kinds of songs including: Venetian “vilote” and Friulian, Piedmontese narrative songs, Romagna “biojghe”, lullabies, stornelli, strambotti, Tuscan respects and Abruzzese “songs”, Calabrian funeral songs, Sardinian “mutos”, and other regional examples. It is a rare and precious material made of oral culture, which risked being lost over time.
Si canta Maggio is a project by Ambrogio Sparagna for the Italian Popular Orchestra of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome and the Popular Choir directed by Anna Rita Colaianni.
