A German-born British pianist, composer, producer and performer, Max Richter has been able to conquer the great international audiences with his “modern classical” music and his unique evocative style, writing and playing some of the most beautiful chapters of contemporary music. The fusion of classical tradition, minimalism and electronics is the unmistakable sign of his music, of the most significant soundtracks of films and TV series (for example, The Leftovers and the Genial Friend) and of his numerous publications with Deutsche Grammophon. The live presented at the Romaeuropa Festival is dedicated to two of his greatest hits: The Blue Notebooks (with the Max Richter Ensemble) and Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons (with the Finnish Baroque Orchestra).
Originally written in 2003 and rereleased in 2018 by Deutsche Grammophon, The Blue Notebooks is a subtle and peaceful protest against political, social and personal brutality. The album includes narrated texts from Franz Kafka’s Blue Octavo Notebooks read by Tilda Swinton. In Recomposed by Max Richter – Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, Max Richter considered the Italian composer’s musical DNA as omni-present in the reworking of the material, despite discarding 3/4ths of Vivaldi’s original material and recreating a new, nostalgic and post-modern musical interpretation. Created together with violinist Daniel Hope and the Konzerthaus Kammerorchester Berlin symphony orchestra conducted by André de Ridder, the album topped the classical chart in 22 countries and won it the prestigious ECHO Classic Award.
