The Teatro Brancaccio hosts the timeless classic of American musical theatre, with the music by Alan Merkel and libretto by Howard Ashman, based on the 1960 film of the same name directed by Roger Corman.
The show tells the story of the unusual plant of Seymour Krelborn, employed with young Audrey in Mr Mushnick's flower shop in 1960s New York. Exposed to attract new customers, "Audrey 2" begins to die just as the shop's business improves, worrying Seymour. He tries everything to make it feel better, but nothing works. The boy discovers that the plant feeds exclusively on human blood by accidentally cutting his finger. The result is a series of events with laughter, murders and an unpredictable ending.
The musical is presented in a fun, colourful and sparkling staging, faithful to the original one, but with some captivating news, directed by Piero Di Blasio, with the sets by Gianluca Amodio, costumes by Francesca Grossi and choreography by Luca Peluso. On stage, together with the extraordinary Giampiero Ingrassia in the role of Seymour, are the ironic Fabio Canino as Mushnik, Belia Martin as Audrey, and the Drag Queen Velma K - born Lorenzo Di Pietro - in the role of the carnivorous plant, accompanied by a cast of talented actors and three backing singers.
