Ambrogio Sparagna and the Fondazione Musica per Roma await you in the Sala Sinopoli of the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone with the eighth edition of La Tarantella del Carnevale: a big celebration for young and old with traditional masks and dancers who, with their overwhelming and dizzying tarantella rhythms, a big concert and a masked parade at 1 p.m., will enliven the open-air spaces of the Auditorium.
The protagonists will be traditional groups of Giant Masks from various regions of Italy. With their colossal proportions, which can reach up to three metres in height, the Giant Masks with human and animal likenesses, made of papier-mâché and other 'poor' materials, still continue to characterise many ancient traditional Carnivals, particularly in some areas of Lazio, Campania, Abruzzo and Calabria.
And it will be precisely some groups of masked Giants, from various Italian regions, together with the choreographic actions performed by the group of folk dancers, coordinated by Francesca Trenta, that will mark this eighth edition of the Tarantella del Carnevale, a special occasion to rediscover the ancient agricultural rituals that highlighted the passage from Winter to Spring, a time of awakening and blossoming, an omen and hope for an abundant harvest.
The Tarantella del Carnevale is a unique and enthralling spectacle, performed both indoors and outdoors in the Auditorium, that will offer a regenerative force, a great original, hypnotic, overwhelming and authentically popular celebration.
