John Scofield Trio

The Sala Petrassi at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone hosts a living jazz legend, John Scofield, one of the most appreciated guitarists on the contemporary international music scene, winner of three Grammy awards and with over 50 albums to his credit.

During his long career, John Scofield has explored and played a wide range of musical styles and genres, combining virtuosity, extraordinary technical mastery, and a deep understanding of improvisation, the cornerstone of jazz.

His compositional expressiveness, undeniably eclectic, blends Bebop with Blues and Funk, making his style traditional, if not classic, but also innovative, especially in his use of the wah-wah effect, fluid melodic lines, and dynamic rhythmic approach. Masterful, as much as unforgettable, are, in fact, his jam sessions with their intense and involving rhythms and his extraordinary complex melodies, always performed with great ease and creativity.

Scofield began to make his mark on the New York jazz scene as early as the 1970s, collaborating with the likes of Billy Cobham, Charles Mingus, Gary Burton, Herbie Hancock, and Pat Metheny.

He left his mark on the music of the unforgettable Miles Davis and was for a long time an integral part of his group whose sounds pushed him towards a more electric and defined sound.

On the stage of the Sala Petrassi, Scofield, accompanied by Vicente Archer on bass and Bill Stewart on drums, will open the inaugural evening of the Roma Jazz Festival 2023 in an enjoyable synergy between instinct and improvisation in pure jazz style, passing through different musical genres: from the great jazz classics to the evocative compositions of Scofield himself, among rock and blues nuances. The three musicians will also play the new tracks taken from 'Uncle John's Band,' the album to be soon released.
