The Happy Prince

Il principe felice-Foto: sito ufficiale del Teatro Mongiovino

Taken from The Happy Prince and Other Tales, the first of a collection of five children's stories published in 1888 by the brilliant Irish author Oscar Wilde, the show at the Mongiovino Theater tells the story of a deep friendship that was born between a little swallow and the statue of a prince placed on a high column, covered with gold leaves and precious stones.

Despite the imminent arrival of winter, the swallow decides to stay next to the prince to help him distribute the jewels that adorn him to the poor of the town of which the prince had never noticed before.

On the stage, two actors narrate, move, sing and, from their skilled hands, as if by magic, using pieces of paper and cardboard, everything starts and the story unfolds: a story about the nobility of feelings and the precious value of friendship. Thus, clouds, swallows, angels and flowers are formed under the astonished eyes of the spectators; all the forms with paper are also easily reconstructed by the children to whom the show is dedicated.
