From the 21st to the 23rd of February, the Church celebrates the Jubilee of Deacons.
In the wake of the Gospel teaching, these men follow Christ the servant, placing themselves at the service of the Church and the least.
Following the example of the washing of the feet, the disciple of Jesus cannot go down a different path from that of the Master, but if he wants to proclaim he must imitate him, as Paul did: aspire to become a servant. In other words, if evangelising is the mission delivered to every Christian in Baptism, serving is the style with which to live the mission, the only way to be a disciple of Jesus.
From the homily of the Holy Father Francis on the occasion of the Jubilee of Mercy, Sunday, 29 May 2016.
All permanent deacons, together with their family members, are particularly invited to this Jubilee event.
