Christmas is devoted to the environment at the Bioparco in Rome.
Inside the magnificent Rome zoological garden, you can admire an outstanding tree made exclusively with waste materials, mostly plastic.
An authentic installation, 7 meters high, made up of 2,500 plastic bottles recovered from commercial activities, private homes, and from visitors to the Bioparco. All the bottles are worked and secured to an iron structure recovered from manufacturing scraps.
The decorations, made with plastic, industrial, construction, handicraft processing waste, and other materials such as fishing lines found on beaches, reproduce some animals guests of the park, especially those mainly affected by the impact of plastic on the environment, such as penguins, seals, tortoises.
The lighting that makes the work extremely suggestive is energy-saving LEDs.
The recycling tree is the work of the artist and naturalist biologist Alessandra Carratù. You can find it on Largo Vittorio Gassman, the square in front of the Bioparco ticket offices, which you can access without an entrance ticket.
