The Orchestra and Choir of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, directed by Ludwig Wicki, perform live the music of the famous film Amadeus by Miloš Forman at the Auditorium Parco della Musica, presenting some of the masterpieces of the Salzburg genius, with pieces taken from the Don Giovanni, Il ratto del Seraglio, The Marriage of Figaro, the Piano Concertos K 482 and K 466, the Requiem and The Magic Flute.
Set in a sumptuous imperial Vienna (in the cinematographic reality reconstructed in Prague), the film deals above all with the last years of the life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - played by Tom Hulce - whose career is retraced by his assignment at the court of Archbishop Colloredo of Salzburg until his premature death, the narration of the imperial commissions of Joseph II, or of the relationship with Salieri - played by F. Murray Abraham - and of the reversals of fortune alternating in his short existence.
The film, shot in 1984 by Czech director Miloš Forman and soon becoming a cult, contributed to making Mozart's name even more famous. In fact, after a few weeks from its release, Amadeus had already grossed 52 million dollars, and in 1985 it won numerous awards including eight Oscars, the Golden Globe, the David di Donatello and the Nastro d'argento, while the double CD of soundtrack received the Grammy Award in that very same year.
