The Moroccan-born artist arrives on the stage of the Mattatoio to present the last part of the trilogy inspired by the Imazighen, the indigenous people of North Africa, as part of the Romaeuropa Festival.
With Akal, as in the previous works Tafukt and Ayur, Mriziga highlights the ancient people's history and memory. Their culture has long been ignored and, for the choreographer, contains the seed of a new future.
The solo performance focuses on the Egyptian goddess Neith, a mythological figure who guides the souls of the dead into the underworld, beautifully portrayed by Dorothée Munyaneza. In an intimate choreographic space, the dancer and singer of Rwandan origin performs powerfully and suggestively between rituals, traditional dances, architecture, singing, poetry and rap that give life to new narratives of the past.
Concept and choreography: Radouan Mriziga
In collaboration with and performed by Dorothée Munyaneza
Transmission of the movements: Maïté Minh Tâm Jeannolin and Sondos Belhassen
