Rome dresses up for the festivities and proposes events dedicated to adults and children in cultural venues, theme parks and open-air spaces, to enjoy light-heartedly together the Carnival days.
Carnival is a movable celebration that takes place before the beginning of Lent and its forty days of penance and purification while waiting for Easter: this year, Shrove Thursday will be celebrated on 27 February, Carnival Sunday on 2 March, and Shrove Tuesday on 4 March.

CARNEVALE A REGOLA D'ARTE 2025
It is the rich programme of activities of the civic museums of Roma Capitale designed for all ages. Children are invited to take part in the activities at the Museum of Rome, the Napoleonic Museum and the Museum of Casal de' Pazzi, to create precious accessories together and imagine living in the time of the Braschi Dukes, Napoleon and in the prehistoric era, while the themed and guided visits lead adults to discover the Roman carnival through the imposing fresco by Orfeo Tamburi at the Palazzo dell'Anagrafe and works such as Renato Birolli's Harlequin at the exhibition L'estetica della deformazione. Protagonisti dell'espressionismo italiano (The aesthetics of deformation. Protagonists of Italian Expressionism), currently underway at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna. CARNIVAL 2025 AT THE MUSEUM
On 27th February, 1st, 2nd and 4th March, Explora awaits you for Carnival with games and activities. On the programme: Gira Gira il Carnevale, an adventure of colours and movement for children aged 3 to 5, with which the little artists can make a special spinning top, between manual skills and creativity; A box of jokes, a creative workshop for children aged 6 to 11, to build a box with a surprise, while discovering some fascinating physical phenomena.
CASINA DI RAFFAELLO
On the occasion of Carnival, two special events are scheduled for children aged 2 to 11, at different times for different age groups: Saturday 1 March, Elmer l'elefante variopinto (Elmer the multicoloured elephant), the event that prepares for the big party on Tuesday 4 March (‘Shrove Tuesday’), in which colourful masks will be prepared together to be worn at the Tuesday parade, inspired by the story of the elephant Elmer; Tuesday 4 March, Grande festa di Carnevale (Big Carnival Party), starting at 3 p.m., all dressed up for an afternoon of games and activities and, to finish, a parade of masks in the splendid Piazza di Siena.
SUSTAINABLE CARNIVAL AT THE BIOPARCO OF ROME
On Sunday 2 March, the Bioparco of Rome celebrates Carnival in adherence to World Wildlife Day with the theme ‘Investing in the Planet’. Many fun and educational activities will be dedicated to families, such as the painting workshop A macchia d'olio and the creative workshop Come Arlecchino (Like Harlequin), as well as four fun and interesting themed stations inside the park. On Sunday 2 March at 3 p.m. at Tor Sapienza, Viale Filippo De Pisis, the 25th edition of Carnival e Non Solo a Sorrisopoli awaits you, with surprises, curiosities and lots of fun.

CARNEVALE TIBERINO
Saturday 1 March sees the return of the fourth edition of the Tiber Carnival, the event along the Tiber of fun outdoor activities with entertainers and guides accompanying children in fancy dress, together with their families, on a walk from Scalo de Pinedo to Sant'Angelo Castle and Piazza Pia, while canoes, rubber dinghies and ‘fantastic animals on the Tiber’ set off down the river. A prize will be awarded for the most representative photo on social media with #carnevaletiberino . Info and times on the official site.
CARNIVAL AT THE PINCIO
On Sunday 2 March, everyone in fancy dress for the Carnival at the Pincio, the appointment at Piazzale dei Martini with skates, trumpets, confetti and streamers, to celebrate the funniest and most colourful feast of the year, in which the children will take a tour of Villa Borghese while the adults will walk through the streets of Rome. CARNIVAL AT CINECITTÀ WORLD
From 15 February, the most fun and colourful party of the year arrives at the Cinema and TV Fun Park with lots of shows and entertainment: along with the many attractions, Trucca bimbi di Carnevale (Carnival Make-up for children) and prizes for the best masks, as you enter from Carnival Street, you can admire the hourly Parade of movie floats, with spectacular Big Foot, Maxi Chopper, limousines, US police cars, Transformer cars and robots, cartoon characters and superheroes, Paw Patrol, PJ Masks, Bing and Sonic and the traditional Parade of typical Carnival floats, in collaboration with the Carnival of Fano, made of papier-mâché by master craftsmen.
CARNIVAL 2025 AT THE WOW SIDE
Until 2 March, every weekend, many activities are scheduled at The Wow Shopping Center with children's make-up artists, soap bubble shows, dance shows, with clowns, majorettes and mascots to experience together the most fun and colourful celebration of the year.
THEATRE PERFORMANCES FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
LA TARANTELLA DI CARNEVALE
On Sunday 2 March, the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone awaits you for La Tarantella di Carnevale, the big party for all ages, with the participation of traditional masks and dancers who, to the rhythm of tarantellas, animate a masquerade parade in the open-air spaces of the Auditorium and a big concert in the Sala Sinopoli.
TEATRO TOR BELLA MONACA
The Teatro Tor Bella Monaca awaits you on Sunday 2 March for A Carnevale ogni scherzo vale (At Carnival Every Joke Counts), a fun and wonderful show that, amidst jokes and funny characters, takes children on a series of daring adventures and an interesting question about the severity of adults.
TEATRO MONGIOVINO ACCETTELLA
Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 March is the turn of Carneval Draghi, the show featuring an illustrious professor of ‘dragology’, his lecture and stories about his dragon friends.
TEATRO SAN CARLINO
Until 2 March, the Teatro San Carlino is staging Il carnevale degli animali (The Carnival of the Animals), a show of actors and puppets with the two special clowns Ciccio and Pasticcio, their small circus and their peculiar animals, amid music, jokes and funny ideas. On 1 and 2 March, everyone in fancy dress for the Carnival Party, with games, dancing, entertainment, make-up artists and, before the party, Ciccio and Pasticcio's funny show.
TEATRO LE MASCHERE
As part of the Fiabe e Biscottini theatre season, Sunday 2 March is the turn of Arlecchino e Colombina nel teatro dei burattini, the show featuring the most popular theatre masks in the funniest scenes from the commedia dell'arte (‘Comedy of Art’).
TEATRO SETTE
On 1 March, Teatro Sette hosts Un mondo mascherato (A Masked World), a journey with the most famous masks of the commedia dell'arte amid jokes and laughter.

THE TRADITIONAL RECIPES OF THE ROMAN CARNIVAL
Discover the delicious ‘’carnival treats‘’, a must for the Romans: castagnole alla romana, soft balls of fried dough dipped in sugar; bocconotti, short pastries filled with ricotta, cinnamon and candied fruit; frappe, crumbly, thin sheets of pastry dusted with icing sugar. Together with a coffee, as a snack or at the end of a good meal, these sweets are ideal for sharing a moment of conviviality, easy to prepare at home, fried - according to classic recipes - or baked, in a lighter version.
