Italian artists and American marching bands meet at 3.30 pm in Piazza del Popolo to celebrate New Year's Day with a big musical parade.
Rome Parade is a fantastic free event, which, for three uninterrupted hours, sees about a thousand performers, including American high school bands, Italian folk groups, and majorettes, play in the heart of the Roman Tridente. The musical march will start and return to Piazza del Popolo, touching Via del Corso, Via dei Condotti, Piazza di Spagna and Via del Babuino.
From the United States arrive the Newark Charter High School Marching Band from Newark (Delaware), the St. Paul's Episcopal School Marching Saints + Saints mascot from Mobile (Alabama), the Notre Dame Preparatory School Marching Band from Pontiac (Michigan), Minnesota State University 'Maverick Machine' Athletic Band (Minnesota) and the Spirit of America Dancers of Dallas (Texas).
From Italy, however, the Folk Group La Frustica of Faleria and the Vejanese Philharmonic Association, both from Viterbo, the Vigoneisa Folklore Band of Vigone, Piedmont, the Fiano Romano Music Band Association, Giacomo Puccini Music Band of Città di Cave.
The Roman Historical Reenactment Associations, the Historical Group and Flag-wavers of the City of Castiglion Fiorentino, the street artists Artefatti Stilts and the Majorettes of Casperia, the Golden Stars of Selci and the Magic Stars of Jesolo, the traditional means of transport, all strictly "Made in Italy," Vespa Side Car, and the characteristic Giant Balloons, will fill with colour the scenography of the Parade.
