Ex Piazza della Croce
The square, located within the university grounds, houses the large 39-metre-high Cross erected for World Youth Day in 2000, called by the then Pope John Paul II. World Youth Day saw the participation in Tor Vergata of over 2 million young people from all over the world, and on 2 May 2011 a ceremony was held to name the Piazzale della Croce after John Paul II, so the University of Rome of Tor Vergata wished to remember the Pope on the day of his Beatification.
