Chiesa di Santa Maria del Rosario in Prati

The church was built in the early 20th century and completed between 1912 and 1916 in neo-Gothic style by architect Giuseppe Ribaldi. It has been a parish church since 1912 and is entrusted to the Dominican Fathers.

The entrance to the church, which faces directly onto the street, is protected by a wrought-iron gate; the façade features a rose window with a mosaic in the lunette. The interior has three naves divided by pillars and five arches. The interior paintings are by Giovan Battista Conti. On the apse altar is a triptych depicting the Madonna of the Rosary; the apse is embellished with three polychrome stained-glass windows that create suggestive light effects. On the counter façade is a mosaic depicting the Madonna of Pompei and a fresco with Mary's Tree of Prophecies.

The title and revenues of the parish of S. Lazzaro extra Pomoerium or extra Portam Angelicam were transferred, by virtue of the faculties granted by Leo XII to Card. Vicar Placido Zurla, on 15 July 1828 with the vicarial decree Utendo facultatibus to the church of S. Maria del Rosario in Monte Mario.
The Friars Preachers who officiated at the church were entrusted with the care of souls and the parish was maintained in the same bonds of subjection to the Vatican Basilica that had bound the parish of St Lazarus for centuries. Pius X, on 24 May 1912 with the apostolic constitution Cum incolarum, transferred the title and income of St Lazarus to the present church of St Mary of the Rosary outside Porta Angelica and entrusted it to the Dominicans. Leo XIII, seeing the demographic increase assumed by the Prati di Castello district, purchased a piece of land for 90,563.20 lire and gave a contribution of 80,000 lire so that the Friars Preachers could erect a church there, which, completed according to the design of Giuseppe Raibaldi, was dedicated to St. Mary of the Rosary, opened for worship in 1912 and consecrated on 25 June 1916 by Card. Vicar Basilio Pompili.
